    Overview

Harmony is a retail-focused inventory and point-of-sale system designed to support day-to-day store operations. It was built for a supermarket focused on made-in-Nigeria products, but is adaptable to other retail environments.

The system is used by store staff to manage sales and inventory, and by administrators to monitor operations and vendor activity. It is available on web and mobile, currently as an internal tool with potential for external deployment.

    The Challenge

    • High cost relative to the value delivered

    • Features that did not match actual store workflows

    • Less intuitive interface for daily operational use

    • Inefficiencies and unnecessary spending on a misaligned tool

    • Gaps between operational and administrative workflows

    Our Solution

    How we approached it

Store staff can easily log sales and manage inventory in one place

Admins can track activity, stock levels, and performance centrally

Both operational and administrative workflows supported in a single system

Simpler, more intuitive interface designed around real store processes

Built-in sales reporting and insights for better decision-making

    Outcome

    What it delivered

Reduced operational cost by replacing a high-cost, misaligned system

Simpler and more intuitive interface aligned to real store workflows

Improved visibility into sales activity and inventory levels

More control for administrators across locations

Potential for external commercialisation beyond initial internal deployment

    Strategic Impact

    Why it matters

Replacing an oversized, misaligned system with a right-sized platform lowers total cost of ownership without sacrificing capability

Centralized visibility across stock, sales, and locations improves inventory accuracy and reduces shrinkage risk

A workflow-aligned interface shortens staff onboarding and reduces operational errors

Integrated reporting supports faster, evidence-based stocking and pricing decisions

    Product Development Process

    How we built it

    1. 1

      Research

Identified gaps in the current system and areas of unnecessary complexity through direct engagement with store staff and admins

    2. 2

      Design

Mapped features directly to real store workflows rather than designing in the abstract; simplicity was the primary design principle

    3. 3

      Build

Cross-functional team covering backend, frontend, QA, DevOps, and product working in iterative cycles

    4. 4

      Test & Iterate

Multiple release cycles based on real usage; live feedback shaped refinements

    5. 5

      Deploy

Post-launch feedback loop maintained to keep the system reliable while continuously improving

    6. 6

      Feedback Prioritisation

Urgent issues (especially around sales and inventory) fixed quickly; improvements planned into future releases; lower-priority requests documented
